Tamale, May 27, GNA - Engage Now Africa (ENA), a non-governmental organization, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) has organised a scholarship quiz for brilliant but needy pupils and students in some selected public schools.

A total of 15 Junior High Schools (JHS) and Senior High Schools (SHS), including Kalpohin SHS, Business SHS, Fumbisi JHS are Konlivia JHS are participating in the three-day competition, which opened in Tamale, on Wednesday.

The purpose of the quiz competition was to select brilliant but needy students to benefit from a scholarship scheme to enable them to prepare for the tertiary level.

Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, the Deputy Northern Regional Minister, who opened the competition, said education was important in the development of the nation and urged all to help mould the moral character of the youth to make them useful citizens.

Madam Abiba Saaka, the Sagnarigu District Director of Education, said 'the initiative by ENA is in line with the broad goal of the GES to provide equitable access to quality education at all levels in the country'.

Madam Saaka expressed gratitude to ENA for coming out with such an innovative way of identifying and supporting brilliant but needy school children in the country.

Mr Francis Ansah, the Education Director of ENA, said ENA had zoned the country into three sectors to participate in the quiz competition, adding that, the Tamale exercise, which included schools from Ashanti, Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions, was for the zone one competitors.

Mr Ansah said ENA was also collaborating with Members of Parliament to ensure that those to be selected from the event were supported to the highest level.

Mr Alhassan Dahamani, Member of Parliament for Tamale North, commended ENA for the initiative and urged pupils and students to take their lessons seriously to excel in academic exercise.
