Chief Minister Harish Rawat denied on Wednesday that the Uttarakhand government had gone soft on the cases against yoga Guru Ramdev for his alleged involvement in illegal land deals and other financial irregularities.

“The inquiry is still on and in two cases, the government had imposed heavy penalty. The penalty imposed is indicative of our efforts to proceed with the cases in a systematic manner,” the Chief Minister went on to state.

It may be recalled that during former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna’s tenure, around 80 cases of alleged irregularities were slapped against yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

In another matter linked to the investigation that had been initiated by the government against Ramdev after he got embroiled in the male child drug row, the Chief Minister stated, “I have already received the report, which will be sent to the Centre.”

He refused to elaborate on the contents of the report.
