Chris Coghlan to lead off, Dexter Fowler cleanup vs. Max Scherzer

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon shook up his lineup in advance of his team’s matchup against Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night. Maddon has regular leadoff man Dexter Fowler batting cleanup while left fielder Chris Coghlan moves to the top of the order. Jorge Soler has the day off.

Here’s the rest of the Cubs lineup for Wednesday's game:

Coghlan, LF

Anthony Rizzo, 1B

Kris Bryant, 3B

Fowler, CF

Starlin Castro, SS

Junior Lake, RF

David Ross, C

Jon Lester, P

Addison Russell, 2B

Two of the top three highest-paid pitchers in the history of the game will face off as Lester and Scherzer make their last starts of May for their respective teams. Lester signed a six-year, $155 million deal with the Cubs this past winter that was followed by Scherzer’s seven-year, $210 million contract with Washington. Scherzer is the only pitcher to beat Lester twice last season when both pitched in the American League.
