A LaSalle resident was defrauded of $4,500 after becoming a victim of a Jamaican Lottery Scam, according to police.

LaSalle police say the resident was told they had won a brand new Mercedes Benz and $2.5 Million cash through some sweepstakes.

The victim was asked to provide $4500 in processing fees through wire transfers via Western Union.

The fraudsters claimed to be with the Vegas Gaming Commission and were very convincing, say police. They had phone numbers listed in Las Vegas, possibly spoofed numbers.

Despite some research done by the victims on Google and other search engines, police say they were unable to find any red flags on these fraudsters.
