RANCHI: The day former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched an offensive against the Modi government for falsely targeting him and clarified his position in the 2G scam saying that “I have not used public office to enrich myself, family or friends,” in Delhi; minister of state for finance, Jayant Sinha slammed his statements while talking to media in Ranchi.
Sinha said that Singh’s silence at a time when irregularities were being committed was no less than corruption.
“There are two aspects to the situation, only commission of an act is not corruption, sometimes omission also amounts to corruption when the person concerned is incharge of the functioning of the entire government,” he said. Reminding Singh that the 2G scam was exposed by none other than the CAG during the UPA government only, Sinha said that the BJP has not levelled any baseless allegation against the erstwhile UPA government.
Sinha was here on his way to home constituency Hazaribag where he is supposed to meet his electorate and convey message of the Prime Minister on completion of first year in office. Describing a majority government in Jharkhand as the biggest achievement of Centre during the first year of governance, Sinha said that development is picking pace everywhere including Jharkhand. “Confidence has been returned on the governance and people are hopeful of the economic turnaround soon,” he said.
Asked if the government has been a failure in controlling price rise of essential commodities and petroleum, Sinha said that overall inflation has come down. “There could be seasonal increase in the prices of pulses but the price of commodity basket in whole has not increased,” he said while remaining silent over the petroleum prices.
Explaining the delay in appointment of information commissioner in CIC and vigilance commissioners in CVC Sinha said that the Modi government was not ready to repeat mistakes of the previous governments. “We have scrutinized over 300 candidates and churning is still going on so that any person who is not of impeccable background is made to sit on the chairs of importance,” he clarified.
