NAPA honours Lt Brian Murphy — the hero of Wisconsin Gurudwara shooting

Around three years after the shootout in Wisconsin Gurudwara in which six persons were killed, US based Punjabis organized an event in Eden Garden event center Elk Grove (Sacramento) to honour of this incident Lt. Brian Murphy who was the first to reach the gurudwara during the shootout and was shot over a dozen times.

JALANDHAR: Around three years after the shootout in Wisconsin Gurudwara in which six persons were killed, US based Punjabis organized an event in Eden Garden event center Elk Grove (Sacramento) to honour of this incident Lt. Brian Murphy who was the first to reach the gurudwara during the shootout and was shot over a dozen times. Six persons were killed in the shootout and Murphy had become a hero.
Several representatives of various organizations including State Senator Dr Richard Pan, Assembly Member Jim Cooper, Dr Rajwant Singh Washington, Satnam Singh Chahal of North American Punjabi Association, Bishop Ron Allen, Yuba City Council member Tejwant Mann, Dr Jasbir Singh Kang participated among others at the recently organized event.
Welcoming Lt Brian Murphy K3 international Member Inderjit Singh Kalirai said that Lt Murphy was great hero for the Sikh community who saved several innocent lives at the risk of his own life.
Even as Murphy has been honoured earlier also by the different Sikh organizations and he won wide praise from the Sikh community, NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal said that the purpose to honour him now was to remind everybody of his heroic deed and to make him understand that the community would never forget his role and bravery.
NAPA Chairman Dalwinder Singh Dhoot said that Sikh community could not forget Lt Brian Murphy who was the first to arrive at the Sikh temple Wisconsin on the day of the shooting and then shows exemplary rit and dedication towards his duty even as h was badly injured.
Dhoot said that this was very unfortunate that lessons were not learnt from the Sikh Temple shooting and till today there were no security arrangements in the Guruduwaras to avoid these kinds of tragedies in the future. He appealed to all members of Gurduwara Committees to arrange all security measures in the Gurduwara in order to avoid any kind of tragedy in future.
While addressing the audience Lt Brian Murphy said that he didn’t consider himself a hero but one thing I had learned from the Sikh community was being your brother’s keeper and helping people who couldn’t necessarily help themselves.
On this occasion North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) honoured Lt Brian Murphy for his bravery.
