Limpopo Treasury MEC booted out

Polokwane - Limpopo Treasury MEC Rudolph Phala has lost his position on Premier Stan Mathabatha’s executive committee.

Mathabatha announced a reshuffle on Wednesday at his office in Polokwane, adding two new faces to his cabinet.

He introduced South African Medical Doctors Association chairperson Phophi Ramathuba as Health MEC, and Rob Tooley as new MEC for Treasury.

Tooley, head of Treasury during former premier Sello Moloto's era, was removed when Cassel Mathale took over in 2007.

“It’s my pleasure to report that the assessment and evaluation of the performance of the entire executive council of Limpopo has been finalised, and I have come to a conclusion that there is a need to effect changes,” Mathabatha said.

“I have no doubt that these changes will add value to our commitment to accelerate delivery of services to our people,” he said.

The reshuffle also saw the MEC of Health Ishmael Kgetsepe shifted to Education.

He made way for Ramathuba, who was sworn in earlier as member of the provincial legislature.

The reshuffle was anticipated after the death of Education MEC Thembi Nwendamutswu earlier this year.
