Daimler India's bus manufacturing facility launched

Chennai, May 27 (UNI) Commercial vehicle major Daimler India today launched its new bus manufacturing facility at the automobile hub of Oragadam, about 40 km from. here. The new facility was set up with an investment of Rs 425 crores in association with the Ireland-based Wrightbus International. It would manufacture buses with gross vehicle weight (GVW) of nine and 16 tonne range under the brand name Mercedes Benz and Bharat Benz. Spread over 28 acres, the new unit, set up at the company's existing manufacturing facility, has an installed capacity to manufacture 1,500 buses. However, it could be expanded to 4,000 buses. "With the launching of the new bus manufacturing facility, Daimler India has expanded its business in India. It has also now become a full-fledged commercial vehicle manufacturer in Indian market," Daimler Trucks and Buses, Member of Board of Management, Dr Wolfgang Bernhard told reporters after the formal launch.
