SMRU Makes New Appointments

SMRU Consulting Europe has promoted Dr Carol Sparling to Technical Director and Dr Cormac Booth to Director of Business Development.

with 15 years’ experience as a marine mammal scientist and 7 years of experience in applied science consultancy working with both industry and government clients, Sparling’s new role will be to lead the Europe team forward. She has a wide range of practical, analytical and management skills developed through involvement with numerous projects. She is the technical lead on numerous projects considering the impact of renewable energy developments on marine mammals.

Booth will act as deputy Technical Director for Carol and in his new role he will provide a focus for the Europe team on promoting services and generating new business.

Booth is the lead scientist and project manager for multiple projects involving investigating the potential impacts of marine renewable energy development on marine mammal species (and PCOD). He provides specialist advice on Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM), statistical modelling, analysis into EIA’s (noise and marine mammals) and provides advice for mitigation studies relating to impacts on cetaceans.

SMRU Consulting deals with marine mammal consulting and research, delivering innovative, robust and environmentally sound solutions to clients active in the marine environment.

The company works across all marine sectors from wet renewables, civil engineering, infrastructure, oil and gas and decommissioning to government, defence, and scientific research and development.
