MALAPPURAM: A special investigation team of police led by the DSP of Perinthalmanna seized fake currency with a face value of Rs 21 lakh and arrested two persons on Monday evening.
The arrested are K K Krishnakumar, 42, native of Karunagappalli in Kollam district and David Sam John, 45, native of Pulappatta in Palakkad district.
According to police, the persons who are active members of inter-state fake currency racket were arrested after a joint operation by the special investigation team appointed by the district police chief Debesh Kumar Behra and the shadow police team of Perinthalmanna town.

After the district police chief received a tip-off two days ago that a Malyaali gang of the fake currency racket is trying to smuggle the fake currency from Banglore to Perinthalmanna in a Benz car, the police intensified checking in border check posts and highways. As the inspection team managed to track the Benz car two days ago, the police team followed the vehicle for many hours and team managed to take the vehicle into custody along with the culprits from Manazhi bus stand premises in Perinthalmanna town on Monday evening, police said.
According to police, the accused are active in smuggling and fake currency rackets based n Banglore and they collect the currencies from a Chennai based Malayali, who was arrested earlier by Kerala police.
Police said that the search for the agents and distributors functioning under the gang has already started and they would be arrested soon.
DSP P M Pradeep said that the investigation team will collect evidence regarding the main agents of the racket in Banglore and the accused would be taken to various locations in Karnataka and Tamilnadu in the coming days. CI of Perinthalmanna, K M Biju, SI, C K Nasar and civil police officers are the other members of the investigation team.
