In an attempt to alleviate the growing pollution of Yamuna, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation plans to construct garbage collection points in areas near the drains leading up to the river.
About 37 points have been identified after inspection by the corporation in collaboration with the irrigation and flood control department.
There are 11 such drains under this EDMC department. The garbage collection points will be constructed in localities around these so that the drains and eventually the Yamuna are spared further pollution.

According to the engineering department of the corporation, the construction of these points will cost the corporation approximately Rs 10 lakh each. “The localities near these drains have been polluting the drains. The collection points will help us keep the garbage out of the Yamuna,” an EDMC official said.
Each of these points will have one attendant. The identified locations include Zafarabad, Maujpur Chowk Bridge, Gokupur Village, Shiv Vihar, Karawal Nagar Road, Patparganj Industrial Area, Ghazipur among others.
The construction of each point will require approximately 10 square meters of land and the corporations has requested no-objection certificates from the flood control department for the purpose.
