Boston Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli, who batted .429 (9-for-21) with five home runs and 10 RBIs over a six-game homestand, was named the Amerian League Player of the Week.

The last time he earned the honor was Sept. 8, 2013.

Napoli led the league in home runs, slugging (1.190), and total bases (25), and also led the American League in RBIs and OBP (tied, .500) during the past week.

On Sunday, he became the first Red Sox player since David Ortiz in 2012 to homer in three consecutive games (four total).

Napoli, who had been slumping, said he knew he'd find his groove if he kept working at it.

“I’ve been there before," Napoli said of his extended struggles. “I’ve been in a slump in my career. I know I’m just one swing away from feeling good. I kept grinding; I wasn't going to give up. I knew I was struggling, but I kept at it, worked with Chili [Davis], got a tip from Peewee (Dustin Pedroia), and everything’s been going good."
