Ulster have revealed that centre Luke Marshall suffered concussion during training this week and is set for a period of time on the sidelines.

It is the fifth such injury the Ireland international has received in less than two years and is to follow the return to play protocols.

Ulster face a daunting trip to France to take on reigning champions Toulon this weekend in the Champions Cup and while mathematically Ulster are not yet ruled out of qualification, they are on the brink of elimination. Having lost three of their four pool matches they have negligible chance of making it through.

There was further bad news on the injury front with the news that Dan Tuohy looks likely to be unavailable to Joe Schmidt for the Six Nations campaign.

The lock suffered a thumb injury in Sunday’s win over Treviso and will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament tomorrow. He is expected to be out of rugby for up to eight weeks.

Elsewhere Nick Williams is expected to return before the end of the month while Iain Henderson continues to make progress on the hip injury that he sustained in September. He has taken part in some light training and is expected to be available for selection in the coming weeks.
