RAK hospital receives 513 lung disease patients

Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah organised on Monday the diffuse lung disease conference in the hospital’s lecture hall. About 43 physicians, specialists and technicians reviewed the ways to diagnose lung diseases.

Dr. Jung-Gi Im, Consultant, thoracic radiology and head of radiology department in Sheikh Khelifa Specialty Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah stated that the hospital provides all new technology methods and experiences to conduct the required tests for discovering all lung diseases. The hospital received 513 patients suffering from lung and heart diseases in six months of which some cases were suffering from oncology and cardiology diseases.

He also explained that the conference discussed the latest technologies for diagnosing lung diseases as well as the latest researches and studies in this regard. The conference reviewed ways of diagnosing lung diseases and cases studies noting that early screening of lung diseases would definitely speed the process of the treatment and recovery.

Dr. Im explained that smoking is the major cause of lung cancers whereas studies reveal that more than 60 per cent of the diseases are caused by smoking in addition to genetic factors, inadequate hygiene or unhealthy practices in addition to community acquired pneumonia.

He stated that the hospital gives great concern to the organisation of conferences, lectures and seminars as they highlight the implementation of continuous medical education for the physicians in all specialities. “Our aim is to raise the standards of our doctors and improve the medical sector and benefit from local and international expertise. Such important events enrich the knowledge and experiences of our physicians and review the latest technologies or treatment in the oncology field,” he said.

The participants discussed radiological detection and diagnosis such as the simple chest radiology and high resolution CT which are used for further evaluation. Clinical assessment of history, pulmonary function test are routinely obtained. Lung biopsy is required in cases of non-diagnostic by both clinical and radiological assessments.

The conference is hosted in Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, RAK for the second time and all the participants obtained one CME hour from the Ministry of Health.
