There was an unprecedented delay in the official release of the SSLC results in Puducherry with the details available only around 11.05 a.m. on Thursday.

The scheduled time was 10 a.m. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy who had called media persons to officially announce the results arrived at his chamber a full hour behind the schedule.

Although the private schools had gone ahead with getting the results with their own arrangements some of the best performing schools did not want to come out with the announcement of the results for want of communication from the Puducherry Government.

At the same time, Government schools in Puducherry and Karaikal regions were kept in the dark about the details of toppers.

Media persons waiting at the Chief Minister’s chamber were not able to get details of results. A few officials from the School Education Department had come to the Assembly armed with papers containing the details of toppers.

In spite of reporters pleading for availability of the results the officials declined to oblige and kept insisting that unless the Chief Minister officially announced the results it would not be possible.

By the time the results were announced at 11.05 a.m. it had become fait accompli. When asked about the delay in announcing the results, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy took the defence that he had prior engagements including garlanding the statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Only highlights

The details provided by the officials of the Education Department were also not comprehensive and only highlights of the results were released to the media.
