Road roko by ward members

May 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - Tiruvannamalai:

Ward members of Vengikkal Panchayat staged a road roko on Monday to protest panchayat vice president Suresh.

They blocked the traffic on Tiruvannamalai-Vellore Road. According to protesters vice president Suresh did not sign cheques to spend on behalf of the panchayat. Signatures of both president and vice president are necessary for spending money from panchayat’s bank account.

Protesters alleged that due to intransigent attitude of the vice president several development works and basic functions of the panchayats have been pending. The protest was withdrawn after police intervened.
