Two hundred women will be trained as She Taxi drivers by the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), its chairperson Rekha Lahotia announced on Monday.

Part of its ‘Hunar Hai Toh Kadar Hai’ initiative, the programme is being organised in association with the State Government. Maruti Suzuki Driving School will train the women, who will be deployed as She Taxi drivers.

“Training will kick off when we get a batch of 30 to 40 women. After being trained, we will also try and find them work as drivers for a year, before they can be deployed by the government,” Ms. Lahotia said on the occasion. She said the initiative would continue for three years. The Road Transport Authority (RTA) had already trained a few women for deployment.

On the occasion of the initiative’s announcement on Monday, D. Nageshwar Reddy, chairman of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology delivered a talk on living healthy. Dr. Reddy told the gathering that recent research in gastroenterology had shown prominence of gut bacteria in good health. He also emphasised healthy living to reduce risk of lifestyle diseases such as obesity and diabetes.
