AMRITSAR: The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) has hit back at the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) over the Nanakshahi Calendar row, stating that it is an independent entity and it cannot be misled by any individual on Sikh issues.

Amritsar, May 25

The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) has hit back at the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) over the Nanakshahi Calendar row, stating that it is an independent entity and it cannot be misled by any individual on Sikh issues.

Earlier, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar had said Akal Takht was supreme and the SGPC abided by all decisions taken by it. He had also stated that the PSGPC should not get misled by any individual and should accept the supremacy of Akal Takht as well as the decisions taken by it.

As per a release issued here today, PSPGC general secretary Gopal Singh Chawla said they have always stuck to the original Nanakshahi Calendar. He said members of the community in Pakistan had immense respect for Akal Takht and were firm on following its principles.

He stated they had time and again given a call for calling ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ at Nankana Sahib where Sikhs from across the world should resolve the calendar row once and for all. — TNS
