Earlier this month, adidas announced that they would be discontinuing the Predator and F50 soccer boots worn by almost every professional player sponsored by adidas for the better part of two decades.

In place of the time-tested shoe, adidas has unveiled the X and ACE and allowed Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola to explain the whole thing.

“There are players who think more about what the team needs and what is the best solution for the team,” Guardiola said in a statement from adidas. “This kind of player is an intelligent player who has a vision about what the team needs. He controls.

“Then there are the ones who cause chaos. The ones who play on instinct and on talent. They are a little outside of the field. They can create absolutely everything and you can’t control that. You cannot limit that.”

If you haven’t spent a lot of time around the game, Guardiola’s comments can be confusing. Here is a simple breakdown:

There are two types of players. There are players who wear all-neon cleats, and players who wear neon cleats with black stuff on top.

The ACE15 has a control web, adidas explains in a statement, and there is a new “stud configuration” which will allow “players that run the show” to dominate suitably, while wearing neon accents.

On the other hand, the X15 is lightweight, made up of a “three layered” system for comfort, protection, and performance, but most importantly, is all neon.

You can decide whether you want to buy all-neon or black with neon accented adidas wiild on July 1, but you can catch the new look in the wild during the Champions League final between Barcelona and Juventus on June 6.
