Deputy engineer caught accepting Rs 1,000 in Mumbai

A deputy engineer of Mhada was caught by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 from a contractor on Monday.

MUMBAI: A deputy engineer of Mhada was caught by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 from a contractor on Monday. According to the ACB, the complainant in the case is a civil contractor attached to the Public Work Department (PWD) who had submitted a proposal for repairing of an old building in Kamathipura at Nagpada.
Deputy Engineer Pankaj Patil allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 bribe to clear the proposal.
Acb laid a trap and arrested Patil. According to police, actual process is that, MHADA does a survey of old building on their own and there after appoints the Architecture, who is on MHADA panel for submitting estimate of repairing.
There after Architecture submitted the same to the Dy. Engineer. After submitting the proposal to Dy engineer. Architecture appoints the conractor those who are on MHADA and PWD panel.
