Member Parliament, Tariq Hamid Karra, Chaired Aerodrome Advisory Committee Meeting on the other day at Srinagar International Airport, in which Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Director Tourism, Justice Muzaffar Jaan, SSP (AHI), SP Budgam, GP. Capt. Indian Air Force, Commandant CRPF, Chairman TAAI, President TASK, President Kashmir Chambers of Commerce, Station Managers of Jet Airways, Air India and other concerned officials attended the meeting.The meeting was convened by the Airport Director, Airports Authority of India, Srinagar International Airport, Srinagar.
Mr. Karra reviewed the facilities available for the passengers at SIA, Srinagar. Chairman and all the committee members emphasized to start late night domestic flight operations in view of tourist season. The Members also demanded International a flights operation from Srinagar International Airport. Mr. Karra reiterated that the matter has been already taken up with Ministry of Civil Aviation concerned authorities and decision is likely to be taken soon.
It was also decided in the meeting that Chairman will take up naming Srinagar International Airport as Sheikh-ul-Alam, International Airport with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ministry of home Affairs.
Mr. Karra further said that Airports Authority of India (AAI), shall improve facilities at the Airport to make it more passengers friendly by providing complete Vehicle Scanner System and additional X-BIS machines at the Drop Gate and also by increasing the num be of entry gates at the Terminal Building.Member Parliament further emphasised that AAI should run a free shuttle (Bus) service from Drop Gate to the Terminal Building to facilitate passengers/tourists coming to the airport in the public transport up to the Drop Gate and that AAI should provide free porters at the Security Points/Drop gate assist and facilitate the needy passengers.
