A 1975 Ford F100 deserves respect for plenty of reasons but we didn’t know this pickup truck can drift so well. The proof that it actually can comes in the footage below, even though we have to admit this isn’t your average F100.
We are looking at a restomod here, one that’s been built to be driven. Sideways. The F100 was recently drifted on the Beech Ridge racetrack in Scaraborough, Maine. Heck, we don’t even know if the shell even holds a Blue Oval motor anymore.
Nonetheless, the stretch of NASCAR-sanctioned asphalt was being used for a race at the time, not a sliding event. Sure, the event, which took place yesterday, may have been called Beech Ridge Day of Destruction, but nobody actually expected the participants to go all destruction derby.
Well, the Ford driver was very close to pulling such a move, after he lost control of the truck while drifting on the outside of another contender. The imminent crash was barely avoided, with the F100 driver going through a no-ABS emergency braking subsequently.
The latter situation led to a second near miss, with the Ford barely avoiding hitting the wall. Despite the guy’s initial reckless attitude, the crowd was cheerful after the pair of near misses. And when you see that small wheelbase, it’s not difficult to understand why it’s so easy to lose control in this Ford.
Perhaps this driver chose a 1975MY to play the underdog card. After all, this was the last model year that didn’t see the F-Series receiving the “best-selling truck in America” accolade.
