BHEL commissions hydro projects for NTPC, NHPC

New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) The state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has commissioned six hydro sector projects aggregating 736 MW capacity in different parts of the country during 2014-15. ''This is the highest hydro capacity addition in a single year,'' BHEL said in a statement here today. These projects include Koldam Hydro Electric Project for NTPC and 130 MW of NHPC at Rampur. Significantly, the PSU firms like NTPC which were earlier concentrating on the coal-fired projects are now diversifying into hydro projects as well. The commissioning of the hydro projects would lead to reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and improvement of environment as coal fired projects generate pollution. UNI PC PY 1233
