Cape Town - Following their impressive 40-17 win over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein at the weekend, the Lions have no intentions of taking their feet off the pedal.
It was their eighth Super Rugby win - a franchise record - and temporarily lifted them to the top of the South African Conference.
However, the with the Stormers beating the Rebels at Newlands, the Lions moved down to second spot in SA Conference and seventh on the overall log.
They are nevertheless in with a shot of reaching the playoffs come season’s end.
“Our main focus was to play for 80 minutes and I think we definitely improved. We played for 60 or 65 minutes, but it was our most clinical performance of 2015,” captain Warren Whiteley told Netwerk24.
Whiteley talked down the fact that they have now achieved the most number of wins in the history of the Lions franchise.
“It’s good that we’ve achieved more wins (than last year), but it still feels as though we’ve got more left in the tank.
“We’re not going to rest on our laurels just because we’ve achieved something by claiming eight wins.”
The Lions host the Waratahs in Johannesburg this Saturday, before closing their league campaign against the Stormers at Newlands on Saturday, June 6.
They have a bye in the final round of league games.
