Two groups clash over land dispute

Passersby run helter-skelter on Saidabad road as the mischief-makers hurl bricks, stones and sticks at one another

Tension prevailed for sometime on the busy Saidabad road in old city on Saturday afternoon following a clash between two groups over a land dispute.

Two persons sustained minor injuries in the clash.

According to the police, the trouble began when a group of locals from Madannapet area came to the office of a private realtor to protest against alleged harassment by the latter. As the two groups confronted one other a clash ensued between them. Stones and sticks were used as missiles during the clash.

Motorists and passers-by ran helter-skelter as both the groups hurled bricks, stones and wooden sticks at one other.

Traffic came to a standstill in the area for sometime.

On receipt of information, the police rushed to the spot and dispersed both the groups using mild force.

Cases have been registered against them and police pickets were posted in the area.

A dispute is going on between different groups pertaining to a piece of land at Dhobighat, Madannapet for the last few years.

A couple of years ago also there was a clash between two groups.

ACP transferred

Meanwhile, taking a strong note of the clash, the top police officials transferred Santoshnagar ACP Mohd. Ashwaq to police headquarters, a senior police official said.
