Parents protest against death of newborn babies

Babies died due to suffocation due to lack of proper medical intervention

Namakkal: The irate relatives of two women, who delivered still-born babies, gheraoed the Tiruchengode government hospital alleging medical negligence here on Sunday. Kasthuri, 25, wife of Gopi from Suriyampalayam near Tiruchengode was admitted in the government hospital on May 17. “She developed labour pain early on Saturday morning. At the time of delivery the baby had died due to suffocation due to lack of proper medical intervention,” the relatives alleged.

Similarly Satya, wife of Arulmani from the same Suriyampalayam neighbourhood was admitted in the hospital on May 22. “The doctors at the hospital did not do proper medical checks on her. Hence the baby had died due to high blood pressure,” the relatives alleged. Arulmani said that ever since his wife was admitted in the hospital not a single test was done on her. “My baby had died due to high blood pressure of my wife. We visit government hospitals as we could not afford to go to private hospitals. Though all facilities are there in government hospitals, the doctors, on the other hand, are very negligent and do not provide proper treatment,” he said.

Tiruchengode government hospital medical officer P.Prakash said that the deaths of babies were only accidental and was not due to medical negligence. “Since the parents have complained that the unfortunate incidents happened due to negligence of the nurses, action would be taken against the staff after an enquiry," he said.
