Police personnel to be trained at CCTV command centre from 1st week of June

With the work of setting up closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) and putting in place the control room for the surveillance system underway, the city police will start training 60 officers and constables from the first week of next month.

NASHIK: With the work of setting up closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) and putting in place the control room for the surveillance system underway, the city police will start training 60 officers and constables from the first week of next month. These personnel would be communicating with various departments from the control CCTV control room and report different issues during the upcoming Kumbh Mela.

Pankaj Dahane, deputy commissioner of police (Kumbh Mela and city traffic), said, “The training of police officials and constables will commence in the first week of June. The entire work of setting up the CCTV cameras is expected to be over by June 15. By the time the CCTV cameras are installed, the force will be abreast with all the requisite things expected from them.”
Besides the 12 huge screens at the control room which will receive CCTV feed from across the city, the command centre will also handle the public address and wireless systems. Four more control rooms in different parts of the city will be set up as well. Police are generally acquainted with sending and receiving messages from the wireless system on issues related to law and order.
Senior police officials said for an event like Kumbh Mela, they will have to be trained on standard vocabulary used in the incident command system, which is a tool devised for command, control and co-ordination of emergency response. The personnel at the command centre will communicate with the state transport corporation, the disaster management cell, the railways and hospitals besides various other departments that will work jointly during the event. The company installing CCTVs will also make the personnel concerned abreast with the techniques in handling different machineries set up at the control room.
