Season 1 of new hit comedy series “Jane TheVirgin” started out with a botched artificial insemination. Main character Jane was accidentally impregnated due to an erroneous insemination. Show runner Jennir Urman reveals that Season 2 will once again involve Rafael’s sperm sample and his ex-wife Petra’s plans for them.

“We just liked the idea of coming back full circle to this moment when she was trying to get his sperm in the first place and now she's got it in her hands,” says Urman. She explains to The Hollywood Reporter that there will be a lot of twists and turns to Petra and Rafael’s story.

“He's Petra's kryptonite. He's her vulnerability. She loves him.” says Urman about Rafael. Now that he’s with Jane and he’s been manipulating her, Petra has to decide what she will do about the sperm sample.

In season 1, things got messed up for Jane when Petra decided to use Rafael’s sperm sample to impregnate herself. Luisa, the doctor Petra and Jane share, had a bad day and made the mistake of switching their procedures. Jane got inseminated and Petra got Jane’s pap smear.

Fast forward to the end of the season and Petra has learned that the hospital has saved another sample of Rafael’s sperm. Her relationship with Rafael is drastically different this time around but she is just as desperate.

At the beginning, she wanted to get pregnant so that she and Rafael can stay married until such time that their prenup will allow her to get a big chunk of his money. This time, after getting divorced, she’s realised that she still loves him and wants him back. However, she also learned that he’s been playing her to get full control of his hotel back. She is angry with Rafael but she still has feelings for him. Now that she has the sample in her hands, Season 2 starts with Petra making a decision on how to use the sample to get what she wants just like in season 1.

Urman also reveals that someone from Petra’s past will also come back into her life. A love interest that she doesn’t know will return. There will be a lot in store for Petra who also has to deal with her crazy ex-boyfriend Milos. Her mother is also in jail due to her pursuit of Rafael so she still need to sort out that situation.

“Jane The Virgin” returns in October on the CW. The series airs Tuesdays at 9:00 pm ET.
