Film City shooting: One held, another detained
MUMBAI: The Aarey Colony police may be close to a breakthrough in the case where Film City contractor Raju Shinde was shot at thrice on Friday. Sources said one person has been arrested and another has been detained for questioning on Sunday.
Shinde was a big name in the construction of sets in Film City. He also ran several other businesses, including a security agency, and was also a labour contractor.
“The shooters wanted to bag a set construction contract inside Film City. Last month, they tried to gain entry when Shinde abused them. The shooters then decided to avenge their humiliation,” said a senior police officer.
After firing at Shinde outside Balaji studio on Friday, the shooters tried to escape on a bike. But Shinde’s securitymen gave chase and the shooters panicked. They abandoned the bike at one point and fled towards the forest. Police zeroed in on the bike owner’s in Malad, who said he had given the vehicle to a friend in Goregaon, who had, in turn, lent it out to two people. These two are likely to be the shooters. “We are trying to track their location and are quizzing their family members,” said the official.
There could also be a larger motive behind the attack, officials said. “With Shinde out of the way, it would be easier for other players to enter the market inside Film City,” said another officer.
