Cop attacked for checking illegal mining in Aravallis

HISAR: A head constable was attacked by some persons indulging in illegal mining at the Aravalli ranges in Kheri Battar village of Bhiwani district on Saturday night.

A head constable was attacked by some persons indulging in illegal mining at the Aravalli ranges in Kheri Battar village of Bhiwani district on Saturday night.

Ram Nivas was deployed on night patrolling duty, when two persons attacked him with an iron rod. He suffered injuries and was admitted to the PGIMS at Rohtak.

The police have registered a case on charges of preventing a public servant from performing his duty and started an investigation.

The injured cop said the two assailants arrived in a canter and threatened him with dire consequences if he tried to stop them from mining stating a dumper and a JCB machine would be pressed into service for mining.

When the cop refused to allow them to indulge in the illegal activity, they attacked him with an iron rod inflicting injuries on his chest. While manhandling Ram Nivas, the assailants said due to him, many of their vehicles had been confiscated.

Bhiwani SP Rakesh Arya said a case had been registered and efforts were on to nab the accused.
