VADODARA: Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel on Saturday inaugurated Govind Guru University in Godhra. The university will bring under its umbrella 84 colleges spread across central Gujarat.
Colleges of Panchmahals, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur and Vadodara rural will be affiliated to the new university.
Addressing a gathering during the inauguration function, Patel said the state is starting two new universities and 11 new colleges to widen the scope of higher education.

Earlier in the day, Patel launched the state-wide drive for a malnutrition-free Gujarat from tribal-dominated Chhota Udepur district.
Similar programmes were also simultaneously held at eight different places across Gujarat to curb malnutrition and address common health problems among children between zero and six years old.
Talking on state government's initiatives to identify such children and give them proper treatment, Patel said initially only height and weight were measured during health check-up programmes. But now muscular strength and swollen legs are also checked. She expressed her gratitude towards to all the paediatricians of the state for their extended support to the government initiatives.

She said the ratio of institutional delivery has increased to 95 per cent instead of earlier 55 per cent in Gujarat. She urged people to take advantage of '108' ambulance service for timely hospitalization and informed that Rs 6,000 is given as support for nutritional food supplements to pregnant and lactating mothers.
The chief minister announced that the state health department will launch a campaign to wipe out cases of deformity like cleft lips and cleft palate with the help of micro-surgery and also provide free orthodontic treatment.
"Similarly, state-wide screening campaign for breast and cervical cancer will be launched from June 1," she said, while advising women to go for diagnosis without hesitation.
She felicitated 'anganwadi' workers by presenting 'Mata Yashoda Award' and congratulated all the 886 award winning 'anganwadi' workers and helpers across the state.
