GJEPC bats for diamond firm accused of discrimination
SURAT: While the National Commission for Minorities has sought explanation from Surat-based Hari Krishna Exports for denying job to a young MBA graduate for 'being a Muslim', the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has come out in support of the firm stating that the allegations were baseless.
GJEPC chairman Vipul Shah said that it was unfair to jump to such hasty conclusions.
"Harikrishna Exports is well-acclaimed for works of philanthropy and well-being of humanity. It is committed towards employee development for generations. We urge the union government to investigate the matter and take corrective actions against the guilty," he added.
Mumbai-based management graduate Zeshan Ali Khan had applied for a job at the diamond firm's Mumbai office on May 19 and had allegedly received a response which said the firm only "hired non-Muslim candidates".
The firm has denied having any such discriminatory policy and said that the email was a mistake by a HR trainee.
