CBSE students worried as online admission begins
KOCHI: With autonomous colleges in the city starting online admissions and CBSE Class XII results yet to be announced, students and parents are worried that too much of a delay may affect the prospects of getting the subject of their choice in a good city college.
“While the state government announces results very early, we have to wait a lot. Colleges start the admission process as soon as the state Class XII results are announced.
This year, it seems they are testing our patience. Even ISC results have been announced and we will be the last ones seeking admissions. I fear that this may affect our chances of getting into the best colleges,” said Ajay Anilkumar, a Class XII student of Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Ernakulam.
Nobody knows when CBSE will declare the results and school principals are hopeful that it will happen this month itself. “Our admissions to college don’t depend on who comes first, but on who has scored more. In that sense we are hopeful that the colleges will be a bit lenient towards us,” Kashyap Sarathy, a Kendriya Vidyalaya student.
The four autonomous colleges in the district – Sacred Heart College, Maharaja’s College, St Teresa’s college and Rajagiri College of Social sciences – have already started their online admission. Rest of the colleges, affiliated to MG University, will get students through the centralized allotment process from May 28.
Though autonomous colleges have announced the last date to submit applications for various courses, they said that more time will be given to CBSE students. “We have set June 5 as the last date for accepting applications. But if CBSE results are delayed beyond this date, then we are willing to extend the timeframe to accommodate CBSE students,” said Sajimol Augustine M, principal of St Teresa’s College in Ernakulam.
“We will finalize the allotment of seats after CBSE results are declared. We want the best of students in our college,” added Fr Prashant of Sacred Heart College, Thevara.
