Officials in Thanjavur and Perambalur districts inspected the school vans, buses, and other vehicles used for the transporting students.
A total of 432 vehicles were inspected for ascertaining their worthiness for continued use this year. Addressing the representatives of managements of private schools at Armed Reserve police grounds, N. Subbaiyan, District Collector, said 11 had been declared unfit as they were unsafe. He advised the parents to register any complaint in respect of safety of vehicles with the Education Department officials or district administration. V. Tamizharasu, Chief Educational Officer, said another 62 vehicles would be inspected shortly. Rajkumar, Regional Transport Officer, was present.
Perambalur RTO checks vehicles
The parameters for ascertaining the fitness of school vehicles included availability of emergency exit, adequate space for school bags, first aid box and student-friendly steps, said P. Madhusudhan Reddy, Sub-Collector.
He inspected 227 vehicles of which the fitness certificates for 13 vehicles were suspended for want of certain compliances, he said. T. Arivazhagan, Regional Transport Officer, ascertained the parameters.
The officials advised the school authorities to ensure availability of First Aid kit and other emergency medicines and drugs to be used in case of emergency.
