For the first time in nearly a week, no major protests or incidents were witnessed on the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) premises on Saturday, a day after the government intervened and announced the postponement of results of the Common Entrance Test and Undergraduate Entrance Test of the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka.
However, the crowd appeared to have shifted to BangaloreOne centres, where applications for photocopies, re-evaluation and re-totalling were being accepted.
A parent complained of how there were no separate counters for students at the centres, forcing them to stand in queues.
“I was handed over a waiting token number of 144 when I went to apply for re-evaluation. I had to stand along with people who were paying electricity and water bills,” said Pulit Kumar, a student.
Meanwhile, as the dust appeared to be settling down on the fiasco surrounding II PU results, many parents headed to the DPUE to enquire about the delay in dispatching photocopies of answer scripts, for which they had applied on May 19. “I have applied for photocopies of three answer scripts to assess my son’s performance. But we still haven’t got it. When do we apply for re-evaluation? We are running out of time,” he said.
Another problem that the students reported was about having to pay for being marked absent. While Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar said that students who had been marked absent on a particular paper in spite of being present need not pay money, Athiya Fouzeel, a student, said she was asked to pay Rs. 1,500 by the college while submitting the request.
