A man was arrested after a smoke grenade was thrown into the Vancouver Police headquarters Saturday morning.

Officials say the 28-year-old threw the grenade into the lobby of Cambie Street station just after 11:30 a.m. and was quickly taken into custody.

According to police, the grenade caused minor damage and no one was injured.

The building was evacuated and HAZMAT cleared the building before it was reopened.

Police will recommend charges including mischief, assaulting a police officer, and administering a noxious substance. The accused is known to police.
