Land acquisition for NIT township from May 25
Nagpur: The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) will start acquiring land for its second mega township from Monday. The state government has cleared the project.
Sujata Kadu, NIT’s chief of town planning, said that the land would be acquired by land pooling method. “Farmers will give us their land. We will develop it and keep 40% for ourselves. The owners will get the remaining 60% developed land.
This method is known as land pooling and is highly successful,” she said.
There are 429 farmers whose land needs to be acquired by NIT. Chairman Shyam Wardhane has held first round of talks. The farmers were positive about giving their land.
The scheme covers Sumthana, Kotewada, Sondapar, Jamtha and Parsodi villages. If the location is specified with respect to Mihan, then it covers the area the south, south-west and south-east of Mihan. In south, it is on both sides of Outer Ring Road. In east direction, it is up to Wardha Road and its western boundary is Vena River. The area of the township is about 11 sq km and cost of infrastructure is about Rs610 crore.
Even as actual work begins on this township, the proposal Jamtha township is gathering dust in Mantralaya since February 2013. At present, it is in chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ office. This township is spread over Khadaka, Kirmiti, Panjari, Shiv Madka and Sumthana and having an area of 10 sq km. It is not clear why the government is taking so much time to approve the Jamtha township.
Both townships, when fully developed, will have the capacity to house two lakh people. They will be the first mega townships in Vidarbha. NIT will provide all civic amenities – roads, street lights, water pipelines, sewer lines, etc. They will have commercial zones, which will have offices, shops, etc. As per the plan, the townships will have ample open spaces and lot of gardens and playgrounds.
