KOZHIKODE: A team of 10 persons, including a police sub-inspector, attacked two shadow police persons and damaged their two-wheeler in inebriated condition. The accused gang attacked the police personnel as they warned against consumption of alcohol in public place.
The incident occurred around 10.30pm on Friday at Kudilthodu near Chevarambalam. The shadow police persons were on patrol in the region as they received information regarding a drug deal.
They warned a 10-member group including sub-inspector Sreenivasan, who works as writer with the traffic police station of consuming alcohol in public place. According to police, the drunken group abused and attacked them physically. Following this, assistant commissioner of police Jossy Cherian submitted a preliminary report to the district police chief (Kozhikode) P A Valsan. It is learned that the ACP in his preliminary report has recommended action against the sub inspector as nquiry found his involvement in the attack against the shadow police persons. The report was submitted to the district police chief on Saturday night.
Chevayoor police also recorded the arrest of one of the accused Sushil Kumar from Chevarambalam. The search is on for other accused including the sub inspector.
“The person did not report on duty on Saturday and is missing,” said P A Valsan. Action will be taken against the accused police person the coming day, he added.
The shadow police persons who suffered injury in the attack were identified as Prasad and Sanesh Kumar. The injured were shifted to Medical College hospital by flying squad team who were informed of the incident.
“The search is on for the accused. The accused police person was absent on Saturday and had sent a leave letter,” said Jossy Cherian.
