'Late Show with David Letterman' finale averages 13.76M viewers

NEW YORK, May 23 (UPI) -- The last broadcast of Late Show with David Letterman averaged 13.76 million viewers, CBS announced.

Wednesday's finale attracted the show's largest audience since February 1994.

Letterman has officially retired from late-night television after 33 years. Comedy icons such as Bill Murray, Steve Martin, Chris Rock and Tina Fey turned out to read the "Top Ten Things I've Always Wanted to Say to David Letterman" on the series closer.

Stephen Colbert will take over as Late Show host in September.
