Here is New Fiat Aegea Sedan – May Replace Linea in Many Markets

Fiat at the ongoing Istanbul Motor Show has raised covers off their latest sedan Aegea. Expected to be a replacement of the Linea, the car will be first sold in the Turkish market and it will go to some 40 other countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa. The car was designed in Italy and was developed together with Tofaş Research and Development centre. Fiat informs that it took them three years and 2,000 people to make this car, which as per the company was ‘Born as a sedan’.

The name Aegea (its actually Ægea) pays tribute to Turkey which has played a vital role in the growth of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group. The car measures a good 4.5 m in terms of length, 1.78 m in terms of width and has an overall height of 1.48 m. Fiat says Aegea can seat 5 adults comfortably.

The wheelbase at 2.64 m is marginally better than the largest selling mid-size sedan in India, the Honda City. Aegea also has a total load capacity of 510 litres.

The bonnet has a well-defined curve which stretches all the way to the roof giving it an aggressive and sporty look which is accentuated further with the sharp shoulder line which extends from the head lamps to the tail lamps. The front grille has also been intricately carved and the delicate use of chrome has an impressive effect. The rear C-shaped tail lamps have a well suited shape and are connected by a chrome strip lending the car a serious executive look.

If we talk engines, then the company has announced that they will be offering two petrol and two Multijet2 diesel engines which will have power outputs in the range of 95 PS to 120 PS. Transmission will see options of a manual and an automatic gearbox.

The infotainment system will be a new Uconnect system which has a 5 inch colour touch screen, with handsfree Bluetooth, audio streaming, text reader and voice recognition, AUX and USB ports with iPod integration, steering wheel controls and, on request, a rear parking camera and TomTom sat nav.

We like Fiat’s designs; but unlike what we have seen so far, Aegea appears to have borrowed a lot of cues from the Germans and some from the Japanese as well. But still, the new sedan looks really impressive! It has not been officially confirmed for our market and considering the lack of seriousness for India, we better beleive its NOT coming to us anytime soon! It will go first on sale from November in Turkey…
