Mamata refutes allegations of understanding with BJP

: Rubbishing allegations of an understanding between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that canards are being spread by the Opposition and the media, in this regard.

She even asked individuals affiliated to the student’s wing of her party to use “social networking sites to counter the smear campaign by a section of the media and the Opposition”.

“If I go to a meeting with the Prime Minister, the media has a problem. If I don’t, then also they have a problem,” she said addressing a gathering of supporters of Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) in the city.

The Chief Minister asked why should she not attend such programmes when the State government has made land available for Indian Iron and Steel Company.

The comments made by Ms Banerjee are crucial as it comes in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to West Bengal last week. Ms Banerjee had shared the dais with the Prime Minister at two events.

The meetings have given a chance to the Opposition to allege that the BJP and the TMC have a tacit understanding.
