RAJKOT: With a view to promote local tourism and popularize public transportation, Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to start special city bus services for 'Rajkot Darshan' on every Sunday.
According to Rajkot Municipal Transport Services (RMTS) officials, who manage city bus services, the new Sunday bus service will be a regular feature beginning May 24.

The service will start at 9 am and will continue till 6:10 pm. The Rajkot Darshan route will start from the central bus stop at Trikog Baug. The commuters will have the choice to board these buses every half hour.
The special bus will pass through Ram Krishna Ashram on Yagnik Road, doll museum, Swaminarayan temple on Kalavad Road, Iswariya Park near Madhapar village, Watson Museum near Jubilee Garden, Race Course, Rajkot Zoological Park, Ramnath Para crematorium and return to Trikon Baug.
The fare per person would be Rs 50 for adults while the tickets would be available on a discount at Rs 35 for children and senior citizens aged above 60 years.
At present RMC is running 90 city buses on 45 routes in the city. The re-introduction of city bus service around two years ago has received good response from the commuters in the city.
"On an average over 35,000 commuters use city bus services daily in the city. The Rajkot Darshan service will help people travel across the city on a low fare to important hangout places in the city,'' said a RMC official.
Apart from the city buses, 10 buses are plying on Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) route from Gondal Chowkdi to Madhapar Chowkdi. More than 15,000 people commute daily on this dedicated 10.7 km corridor.
