Few restaurants capture such a sense of place as this Cal-Ital restaurant in Napa. A covered patio on one side overlooks a vineyard, culinary garden and lawn with a whimsical fountain; another patio on the other side has a cozy vibe, thanks to the fireplace. Inside, diners can observe chef Paolo Laboa creating the signature pastas and favorites such as seared salmon with mashed potatoes. The dining room, which also has a fireplace, has a vibrant feel because of the forest of fresh flowers that divides the bar from the main room, and the animated conversation of winemakers and visitors who find common ground under this one roof thanks to the consummate attention of owner Giovanni Scala and his staff. Bistro Don Giovanni seems to do everything well, including pizza and hamburgers.
