A 35-year-old woman, R. Selvi, of Ganesh Nagar in Kovilpatti, allegedly committed suicide after killing her 13-year-old son Ajay in her house on Thursday night.

According to Inspector of Police, Kovilpatti (East), F. Paulraj, they were found dead when Selvi’s father R. Sundaralingam (56) went there from Inam Maniyachi to drop Selvi’s daughter Archana Devi (6). Selvi, who worked in a beauty parlour, was deserted by her husband over a year ago, and was living alone with her son and daughter. However, a suicide note left in the house stated that she maintained a relationship with one David, manager in a safety match factory in Kovilpatti.

David had reportedly borrowed Rs. 5 lakh from her, but he did not repay the money. Selvi wanted the money to be returned to her daughter, who stayed in her grandfather’s house at Inam Maniyachi, when the incident occurred. Selvi could have administered poison to her son, Mr. Paulraj said.

Based on a complaint lodged by Mr. Sundaralingam, Kovilpatti East police have registered a case of suspicious death. The post-mortem was done. Investigation is under way.
