Mayor participates in Swachh Bharat

Accompanied by the staff and the sanitary workers, Mayor Akula Sujatha and Municipal Commissioner Vasam Venkateswarlu conducted ‘Swachh Bharat’ in division No.26 and 27, here on Friday.

They left for the site early in the morning with necessary equipment such as spades and crowbars to remove litter and roadside bushes.

Ms. Sujatha inaugurated the cleaning work by sweeping roads with a long broom followed by removal of garbage, including tendu leaf wastage. Later, they poured it into the vehicles to shift it to dumping yard.

Speaking on the occasion, she stressed the need of keeping environs clean to ward off mosquitoes and resultant diseases. She said the ‘Swachh Bharat’ was a continuous programme and people should take part in it actively.

Mr. Venkateswarlu said that the programme was being organised in every division. He asked the sanitary workers to remove clogs in drains from time to time to ensure free flow of murky water.

Deputy Mayor Fayeemuddin was also present.

Karimnagar Special Correspondent adds: The National Service Scheme volunteers, who are participating in the national integration camp in Karimnagar, took part in the Swachh Bharat programme at the Swargdham and Bovera burial grounds in Karimnagar on Friday.

Participating as chief guest, Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Tushar Gandhi called upon the people to make the country into ‘Sundar Bharat’ by taking up cleanliness and keeping the surroundings clean and tidy.

On this occasion, the volunteers cleaned the burial grounds. Camp convenor Boinpalli Hanumantha Rao and others were also present.
