Amravati: ‘Roshani Zindagi Mein…’, a statewide movement launched a couple of years ago by local Deesha Group and Deesha Eye Bank to motivate the masses for eye, organ and body donation, seems to be going places. As many as 177 people resolved to donate their eyes and seven their bodies posthumously at a single function organized on the ‘terahvi’ programme of late Subhashrao Ambadkar at Walgaon, near here, on Thursday.

“Subhashrao Ambadkar died of heart attack and his family donated his eyes. On the day of his ‘terahvi’, the family thought of holding an eye donation awareness and resolve camp to motivate the people attending the programme. “We organized it to remove misunderstandings about eye donation and explained to people the difference between organ donation and body donation. The result was, 177 people resolved to donate eyes after their death while seven resolved to donate their bodies posthumously,” told Deesha Eye Bank director, Swapnil Gawande, to TOI. He said Dr Baban Belsare and Chhotu Maharaj Wasu also played a major role in convincing and inspiring people for making a resolve in this direction.
