Towards a tough terrain

Although Jayaram Karthik has been juggling four projects at the same time, he manages to find some time for himself and spends it usefully at the gym. “I managed to find sometime for myself, so I have stepped up my gym routines from once a day to twice. This not only keeps me fit but active as well,” Karthik states.

The shooting for Karthik‘s latest project  ‘Mathomme Shh’ is moving at a steady pace and he says that there were a lot of things that he learnt during the shooting of the film, including horse riding. “We were put through a month’s rigorous training in horse riding and considering that I knew nothing about handling horses, it was indeed a great experience. I still remember that there was a chasing scene in the movie where I am riding a horse. It was then that I was injured and hurt my calf muscle pretty badly,” he recalls.
Despite being hurt, Karthik continued to shoot without disrupting the schedule. “We had to ride on a horse for 60 to 80 kmph and that was indeed a challenge. The whole process really strengthened me not only physically but mentally as well because I ventured into a new terrain,” he states.
Karthik Jayaram doesn’t believe in restricting himself to any language. He feels actors must act in as many languages as and when they can. This is precisely why Karthik decided to do a bilingual project ‘Chandrika’ even when his hands were full with Kannada films. He dons the role of a painter in the film which will be simultaneously made in both Kannada and Telugu. Karthik informs that although ‘Chandrika’ is a horror film, it has been shot in an aesthetic manner. “There are no gory scenes or bloodshed. It’s not a regular horror film. You will see all the effects of horror and some of the scenes will leave you feeling a little uneasy,” he states.
There’s also ‘Bangalore 23’, where he plays the lead role, and in ‘Care of Footpath 2’ (where he plays the cop), ready for release. “I have four good projects in hand and I haven’t really signed anything new. I would like to work in some meaningful cinema and not some random stuff,” he adds.
