With no end in sight to job action from public elementary schools teachers, the Waterloo Region District School Board has officially announced cancellation of this year’s EQAO tests.

In a letter sent home with students Friday, WRDSB officials said the EQAO has decided not to send test materials to schools – meaning the annual Grade 3 and Grade 6 tests will not take place.

The situation could still change if job action from the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario is ended, the letter said.

While public high school teachers have gone on strike in some parts of the province over their lack of a new contract with the province, job action from elementary teachers has been confined to a reduction of duties.

In addition to EQAO test preparation, tasks no longer being performed include professional development and the leaving of comments on report cards.

The Upper Grand District School Board announced a cancellation of the EQAO tests last week.
