AJMER: In a setback to government schools, no student made into the merit list of commerce and science Class XII board results, which were announced on Friday.
Commerce stream saw 22 students bagging first 10 spots including 13 girls, whereas, in science stream 58 students managed to crab first 10 positions which included 21 girls and 37 boys.
Despite repeated efforts by the state education minister Vasudev Devnani, no government school in Rajasthan managed a position in the merit list of science and commerce Class XII board exam.
Answering to a question on the issue, Devnani said, “Our priority is to increase the number of students in government schools and we will look to the quality of education. Things are improving and we are developing a system in which teachers will provide quality education,” said Devnani.
Last year, the total pass percentage of commerce Class XII was 90.36 which declined this year to 85.20% but last year girls of this stream scored 95.74% but this year the girls could manage only 91.38%.
On the contrary, last year in science stream the pass percentage was 80.45% which improved to 86.40% this year.
Last year, girls in this stream scored 85.22% but this year 90.33% girls passed in this subject.
In science, 34,060 out of 46,868 girls passed with first division and 8,222 with second division, whereas 1,163 girls got supplementary. As for boys, out of 1,41,231 examinees, 80,914 passed with first division and 38,564 got second division and 4,657 got supplementary.

There was cut-throat competition in the science merit list with a difference of only two marks in the first and tenth positions, in which 58 students managed to occupy.
The science merit list started with 98%, which was scored by Gunjan Arora of Nagaur and Kuldeep Singh Naruka of Udaipur and the tenth position was grabbed by 10 students who secured 96% marks.
The commerce merit list started with 97.40% which was scored by Ragat Goyal of Sawai Madhopur and ended with 92.80% for the tenth position which was occupied by six students.
