AHMEDABAD: Rajnikant Patel, the MoS (home), inaugurated three new police station buildings, two new police stations and modernization work at Ahmedabad rural police headquarters on Thursday in presence of senior police officials. Patel also launched Setu, a mobile phone application at the event.
With the step, Ahmedabad district has become fourth police unit after Surat and Vadodara cities and Jamnagar district to have the application.

Nirlipt Rai, superintendent of police, Ahmedabad rural, said that the application has numbers of all the senior police officials and distress call button that would connect the user directly to the rural police’s control room. “We have also included details about the hospitals, blood banks and fire brigade units for emergency situations. As a new initiative, we have included registrations for senior citizens, vacant houses, tenants, servants and immigrant labours that can be done right from the mobile phone,” he said.
The application includes advisory on issues such as ragging, cyber crime and women rights.
While new buildings of Bavla, Vithalapur and Sanand police stations were inaugurated, Sanand GIDC was separated from Sanand police station. Dholka rural police station has been carved out from Dholka police station. In both the cases, the motive was to reduce the area to increase efficiency, said officials.
